Sokoban: how a round works

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Sokoban. Push every crate onto a target. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

Practice beyond the first move

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The purpose of your moves

Push every crate onto a target. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

How to use the controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

See how the rules apply

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Consider the player’s access behind crates. Check the rule before repeating the action. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
