Your guide to Snake

Start Snake by looking at the playing area and its controls. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Look at what changes after your first action. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Take a closer look while playing

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your objective

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

The playing sequence

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Your inputs

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

An example to follow

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Read the matching step again.

Pay attention to this rule

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
